About the Role:

The Senior Planning Ecologist serves as a key member of the TRCA team, leveraging expertise in aquatic and terrestrial natural heritage to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance. This role requires strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions between parties with different perspectives and resolve conflicts.

You will be responsible for providing technical review and advice on complex reports and construction plans, ensuring compliance with TRCA policies and regulations. Additionally, you will collaborate with staff, engage with stakeholders, and liaise with Human Resources to manage individual employee performance and development.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Technical Review and Advice:
    • Reviews and understands complex reports and construction plans submitted during the planning, permit, and environmental assessment process.
    • Provides clear, concise technical advice to planners, ensuring compliance with programs, policies, and regulation requirements.
  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Works collaboratively with staff, providing senior-level technical support during site visits and meetings.
    • Engages with stakeholders, including government agencies, private industry, and clients, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Project Management and Leadership:
    • Liaises with Human Resources to manage individual employee performance and development, recommends compensation adjustments, and identifies potential training gaps.
    • Maintains a culture of workplace equity and inclusion, promoting diversity and celebrating differences.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Educational Background:
    • University degree in Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of performing relevant major responsibilities, including technical reviews, advice, and stakeholder engagement.
    • 2+ years of progressive managerial, supervisory, or project management experience.
  • Competencies:
    • Able to comprehend technical documentation, skilled in reviewing, understanding, and writing technical reports and drawings.
    • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and negotiate project timelines and variance.
    • Influential communicator, able to facilitate discussions between parties with different perspectives and resolve conflicts.
    • Proficient in MS Office 365, including online software like MS Teams and SharePoint.
