The Island Health organization is seeking a skilled Geriatric Psychiatrist to serve the aging population in the Oceanside area.

This position offers opportunities for collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including Geriatric Medicine, Nursing, Social Work, and Occupational Therapy.

Based at the modern Oceanside Health Centre in Parksville, this role involves outpatient, outreach, and long-term care facility consultations.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in education and medical leadership initiatives.

This part-time to full-time position includes office space, administrative support, telephone, fax, and email services provided by VIHA at no cost.

Additional incentives may be available under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including:

  1. A Recruitment Incentive of $10,000;
  2. A Flat Fee of $6,334.20;
  3. A Fee Premium of 6.3%;
  4. CME funding of up to $6,000 per annum after four years in the community;

About the Location

The communities of Parksville and Qualicum, known as Oceanside, offer a picturesque seaside lifestyle with a temperate climate and easy access to recreational activities.

The area has a population of approximately 48,000 and is readily accessible via the Island Parkway or scheduled ferry, air, or float plane services from Nanaimo.

Job Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must:

  • Be licensed with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC);
  • Hold FRCPC certification;
  • Meet the requirements for membership in the Canadian Association of Geriatric Psychiatry;
  • Have experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary Psychogeriatric care;
  • Hold subspecialty qualification in Geriatric Psychiatry; and
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills.

Estimated Salary: Approximately $250,000 - $300,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
