Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Practitioner to join our team at Dynacare. As a Histology Specialist, you will be responsible for performing routine laboratory procedures to obtain data for the diagnosis and treatment of disease in the Histology lab.

About the Role:

In this key role, you will retrieve specimens from Specimen Processing and prepare them for accessioning. You will also open, separate, number, and arrange Histology specimens for laboratory examination and processing. Additionally, you will set up and operate laboratory equipment in preparation for processing specimens and preparing and staining slides.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate records for all test and control results.
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment (daily/weekly/monthly) & document the completion of each task on the appropriate form(s).
  • Ensure all equipment is operating and appropriate QC is performed.
  • Perform bench work according to daily schedule or as otherwise needed.
  • Follow SOP's as per specific department manual for all procedures.
  • Demonstrate procedures to newly hired Technologists, Technicians and other staff as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of appropriate documents.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Medical Laboratory Technologist registered in good standing with CSMLS & CMLTM.
  • Medical terminology an asset.
  • Experience working in Histology preferred.
