Your Opportunity:

The Public Health Nurse (PHN) is a key position working in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders at Alberta Health Services. The incumbent will deliver quality care, provide safe, ethical, and patient-centered health care, and independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate. The PHN will provide services to individuals, families, groups, and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities, and populations while ensuring their safety and well-being. You will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making to teach, counsel, and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver quality care and provide safe, ethical, and patient-centered health care
  • Independently provide health assessment, health planning, health education, supportive counseling, preventative and screening measures, referrals, and evaluation as appropriate
  • Provide services to individuals, families, groups, and communities with attention to diversity and the social determinants of health
  • Work in partnership with a multidisciplinary team and community stakeholders

Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA)
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP)
  • Strong assessment, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team and independently with minimal supervision in a complex dynamic, fast-paced environment
