Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Teacher Assistant II to join our team at Grande Yellowhead Public School Division No. 77. As a key member of our support staff, you will play a vital role in providing assistance in the classroom and performing student support duties to special needs students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide support to students with physical and/or mental challenges, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and behavioral problems.
  • Act as an integral part of the IEP team, providing support to students on identified objectives.
  • Communicate effectively with students, professionals, and other stakeholders to provide information on student-specific program needs and progress.
  • Accompany students on outings within the community and transport students as required.
  • Administer necessary medications in accordance with GYPSD policy.
  • Assist and/or provide personal and physical care as required.
  • Employ physical restraint if safety concerns exist.
  • Maintain up-to-date anecdotal records of student behavior and program progress.
  • Provide direct educational support to students in various classroom and school-related activities.
  • Use computers and other specialized equipment to provide support.
  • Monitor students' daily arrival, dismissal, class changes, and lunchroom/playground activities.
  • Report safety and discipline concerns to the teacher and/or Principal.
  • Support students in the development of life-long learning, self-esteem, personal skills, and interests.
  • Assist with the behavioral management of students.
Qualifications
  • Completion of grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's license (may be required).
  • Technology and computer-related skills.
  • Specialized training and/or experience dependent on students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a team player.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties.

  • Evidence of a Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
