About the Role

The Fort McKay First Nation is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the temporary position of Health Care Aide. Reporting directly to the Registered Nurse, the successful candidate will provide personal care and companionship for seniors, persons with disabilities, and convalescent clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during rehabilitation or family disruption.
  • Administer bedside and personal care to clients, including aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing.
  • Escort clients to medical appointments as needed.
  • Perform routine health-related duties, such as changing non-sterile dressings, under the supervision of an LPN.
  • Assist with the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of the LPN.
  • Report to healthcare professionals with patient updates.
  • Follow Health and Safety principles in delivering care to residents and work effectively with family members.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitary needs of space.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Perform routine housekeeping duties, such as laundry, washing dishes, making beds, and other related tasks.
Key Requirements
  • Completion of a Health Care Aide Certificate from an accredited college/program is required.
  • Experience in care of the elderly, care of persons with disabilities, convalescent care, or a related field is required.
  • Previous experience in the healthcare field and working with older or chronically ill individuals is required.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is considered an asset.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License and Clean Driver's Abstract are required.
  • A Clean Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector is required.
