Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Emergency team at Lions Gate Hospital. As a key member of the interdisciplinary care team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions for patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Participate in discharge and care planning, and function as a client advocate.
  • Teach clients and their families about illness, injury, and overall health promotion and wellness.
  • Enhance quality of life from the perspective of the client/family.
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance therapeutic relationships based on respect.
  • Provide care to clients and families based on stable and/or predictable states of health.
  • Recognize and respond to unexpected client outcomes by communicating and collaborating with other members of the healthcare team.
  • Document care provided and respond to incidents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses and one year of recent experience working in a related area of care.
  • Current practicing registration as a Licensed Practice Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to caring for patients in the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of pathophysiology related to common diagnoses in the Emergency Department.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform nursing assessments and interventions related to common diagnoses and specific clinical situations.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound clinical judgments to provide safe and ethical client care.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize potential complications and care issues, and to effectively manage conflict situations.
