The Role

As a Lead Software Engineer, you will be part of Global Banking and Markets Engineering (GBME), the technology engine that powers Scotiabank's Corporate, Investment Banking, and Capital Markets businesses.

You will work closely with business teams and cross-functional engineering leaders to develop and implement market-leading solutions for various projects within GBME.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead complex transformational solutions and integrations across various projects in GBME.
  • Advocate for professional-level solutions, code quality, and modern engineering practices.
  • Independently develop, test, and deploy complex custom components using vendor APIs in Java or related technologies.
  • Design test sets and automate testing where possible.
  • Write deployment scripts and leverage tools like Accelerator pipeline to promote code.
  • Design, deliver, and enhance new and current solutions and applications.
  • Continuously partner with Architecture on the design and integration of scalable solutions.
  • Improve the end-user experience by finding scalable solutions and addressing complex ad hoc queries.
  • Mentor and guide other developers.
  • Effectively communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Couch and train end-users as needed.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in enterprise application development using 2 or more modern development languages (Java preferred).
  • Knowledge of Capital Markets workflows and products, with experience interfacing directly with Front Office users like traders and sales.
  • Experience in Capital Markets and Derivatives Trading Systems.
  • 5+ years of experience designing and building microservice architecture applications.
  • Experience with TDD/BDD, focusing on delivering automated, repeatable testing at build time.
  • Experience in proactive monitoring of real-time applications.
  • Experience working with real-time, high availability, and low latency systems.
  • Experience with DevOps tools, such as Kubernetes, Rancher, and different build/deploy pipelines.
  • Experience with Messaging Bus technologies like Kafka, MQ, JMS, or Solace.
  • Experience with SQL and/or other query languages and DB design.
  • Experience with tick DB (e.g., KDB) would be a strong advantage.
  • Good working knowledge of design patterns and best practices.
  • Excellent communication skills to varying audiences, including executive leadership and non-technical resources.
  • A team player, able to efficiently interact with different business and technology groups.
  • A Computer Science degree or equivalent.
