Your Role

We are seeking a Lead Electrical Power Engineer to enhance our dynamic team across Canada. Reporting to the Supervisor of Electrical & Automation, you will play a pivotal role within the electrical and automation team, collaborating with various clients to conduct feasibility studies and detailed engineering projects for both underground and surface mining operations. This position offers the chance to engage in a diverse range of projects on both a national and international scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety is paramount at Stantec. You will ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, demonstrating a commitment to the well-being of all personnel through your designs and interactions.
  • Collaborate with a team of engineers and designers to plan and execute project tasks, including scoping, asset integrity assessments, and detailed engineering.
  • Provide engineering support to clients, addressing their needs and incorporating feedback efficiently and effectively.
  • Engage with other disciplines and departments to facilitate project execution.
  • Review and analyze engineering drawings to identify potential safety and constructability issues before client submission.
  • As part of the electrical/automation team, your main duties will include:
  • Designing and analyzing power systems in compliance with relevant codes for mining operations.
  • Implementing innovative and cost-effective design solutions.
  • Delivering high-quality reports and calculation packages as part of project deliverables.
  • Developing power systems analysis models using industry-standard software.
  • Providing regular updates on project progress to project leads or managers.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Proactive self-starter capable of adapting to change and working independently.
  • In-depth knowledge of design codes and familiarity with Mine Safety and Health Administration regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a collaborative approach to teamwork.
  • Previous experience leading engineering projects in a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and guide project teams.
  • Experience conducting inspections and assessments of electrical infrastructure.
  • Willingness to travel as required for client engagements.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineering license is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in engineering, design, and construction within heavy industry, particularly in mining.
  • Technical expertise in:
  • Electrical Infrastructure & Power Distribution Systems Design, including high and low voltage systems;
  • Mine infrastructure design and assessments;
  • Lighting design and modeling;
  • Process Control & Instrumentation Design for mining operations.
