About the Role


At Ray of Hope, we are seeking a dedicated Youth Justice Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will be responsible for providing supervision and support to youth who are in conflict with the law in both custody facilities and community settings.


Key Responsibilities



  • Provide daily supervision and support to youth in our residential program, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
  • Develop and implement behavior interventions to establish clear expectations and promote positive behavior among residents.
  • Collaborate with other team members, social workers, and program supervisors to create and deliver social, recreational, and skills programs that meet the needs of our residents.
  • Conduct effective searches of person, facility, and property to maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Transport residents safely and securely to and from our facility and other locations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of resident activities, incidents, and progress through written logs and reports.
  • Act as a designated in-charge staff member, providing direction and guidance to other Youth Justice Officers and assisting with operational requirements.
  • Participate in staff training and mentoring, contributing to the growth and development of our team.

Requirements



  • Degree in a related field (e.g., social work, psychology, education) and at least one year of experience working with youth in conflict with the law.
  • Experience in safety and security or police foundations-related work is preferred.
  • Familiarity with understanding and managing aggressive behaviors and possession of a Standard First Aid Level C CPR & AED certificate.
  • Knowledge of working in environments with strict protocols, high-risk offenders, and Ministry regulations.
  • Ability to identify and manage group dynamics, facilitate group processes, and organize social, recreational, and skills programs.
  • Proven ability to write incident reports, complete admission and discharge procedures, and attend to residents' health, medical, and dental needs.
  • Valid, unrestricted Ontario Class G driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Check and Employment Medical Form required.
