Key Responsibilities:- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and appliances.
- Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems.
- Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors.
- Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings.
- Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.
- Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
- Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required shape and size.
- Measure and lay out reference points for installation.
- Handle, recover, and store refrigerants.
- Coach and instruct apprentices.
- Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components.
- Provide customer service.
- Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs.
- Start up systems and test for leaks using testing devices.
- Perform maintenance, such as recharging systems with refrigerant, checking and testing regulators, or calibrating systems.
- Repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, or heat pump systems.
- Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
- Experience an asset.
