Key Responsibilities:
  • Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, including pipes, fixtures, and appliances.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems.
  • Locate and mark positions for pipe connections, passage holes, and fixtures in walls and floors.
  • Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipes and pipe fittings.
  • Join pipes using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, or soldering, brazing, and welding equipment.
  • Test pipes for leaks using air and water pressure gauges.
  • Determine piping system requirements and pipe sizing.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipes to required shape and size.
  • Measure and lay out reference points for installation.
  • Handle, recover, and store refrigerants.
  • Coach and instruct apprentices.
  • Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components.
  • Provide customer service.
  • Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems, and contact tradespersons for major repairs.
  • Start up systems and test for leaks using testing devices.
  • Perform maintenance, such as recharging systems with refrigerant, checking and testing regulators, or calibrating systems.
  • Repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation, or heat pump systems.
Requirements:
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Experience an asset.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Own vehicle.
  • Steel-toed safety boots.
  • Tools.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift heavy loads and work at heights.
  • Manual dexterity and attention to detail.
