Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing layouts, measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling, and joining materials to build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools.
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other materials.
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring, and erect walls and roof systems.
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings, and hardware.
  • Instruct apprentices and supervise other workers.
  • Estimate costs and materials.
Requirements:
  • Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
  • Work setting: Construction, various locations, renovation, commercial, and institutional.
  • Level of expertise: Maintenance and repair.
  • Tasks: Physically demanding, bending, crouching, kneeling, combination of sitting, standing, walking, and tight deadlines.
  • Supervision: 3-4 people.
  • Transportation/travel information: Willing to travel.
  • Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding.
  • Own tools/equipment: Tools, steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, and safety glasses/goggles.
  • Personal suitability: Accurate, efficient interpersonal skills, judgement, reliability, and team player.
  • Experience: 1 year to less than 2 years, permanent position, 30 hours per week, and English language.
