We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Real Property Paralegal to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Real Estate Division, you will play a critical role in providing technical and legal services to support the acquisition and disposal of real estate.
Primary Accountabilities- Preparation and Drafting of Legal Documents: You will be responsible for preparing and drafting legal documents to support the purchase and sale of real property, including the preparation of legal documents, research relative to property and commercial law, and coordination of property closings.
- Property Title Investigations: You will conduct thorough property title investigations, property records research, and searches of legal documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
- Land Registry Management: You will manage and coordinate submissions to the land registry for the recording of land registration instruments and coordinate with the land registry around mapping requirements.
- Technical Legal Support: You will provide technical legal support to internal and external legal counsel, management, and staff on real estate transactions.
- File Management: You will manage real property transactions files and ensure proper property records retention and preservation of files for litigation matters.
- Database Management: You will manage real property databases to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
To be successful in this role, you will require a two-year paralegal technology course from a recognized institution or an equivalent combination of training and experience. You must also have a working knowledge of property and commercial law, applicable legislation, common law, land registration systems, and municipal, provincial, and federal jurisdictions and responsibilities pertaining to land.
You should have a good understanding of legal descriptions, geographic information systems, and records management, as well as knowledge or an understanding of survey and right-of-way plans.
You must be a strong communicator, both oral and written, with strong attention to detail, and be able to conduct detailed research, prepare legal documentation, and manage files. You should also be able to work independently and as part of a team, and utilize sound judgment and tact when dealing with a variety of stakeholders.
