Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator to join our team at Toronto Hydro. As a key member of our Infrastructure Operations group, you will be responsible for implementing processes, systems, and projects that contribute to the efficient technical delivery of maintenance and improvement of our Database infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain Oracle 12c & 19c databases to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
  • Migrate and upgrade existing databases to ensure compatibility with changing business requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Install and configure new databases to meet business needs.
  • Provide after-hours database support to ensure minimal disruption to business operations.
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
  • Apply latest security patches and complete health checks to ensure database security and integrity.
  • Document Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency and efficiency.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree or College diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in Database Administration.
  • Mandatory experience with Oracle database administration on Unix (AIX preferred), performance tuning, and debugging.
  • Strong communication skills to verbally communicate technical information to a wide range of audiences.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to gather relevant information systematically and consider a broad range of issues or factors.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under conditions of uncertainty and evaluate short- and long-term consequences.
  • Innovative thinking to generate and champion new ideas and initiatives.
  • Project management skills to manage client expectations, keep others informed, and adjust plans to respond to changing business priorities.
  • Collaborative skills to work with others, share information, and facilitate discussion and resolution of different views.
  • Drive and commitment to strive to attain results, convey a sense of urgency, and drive issues to closure.
  • Technical expertise to possess up-to-date knowledge in the profession and industry and access and use other expert resources when appropriate.
What We Offer

Toronto Hydro offers a Hybrid Work Arrangement, allowing for remote work up to three days per week, based on business needs. Employees will be required to come onsite on those days when they are involved in activities that they or their leader feel are better conducted in person. You are expected to live in Ontario and within reasonable commuting distance of the office.
