Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly skilled Senior Legal Counsel, Technology and Privacy to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide strategic advice on corporate/commercial agreements, vendor agreements, business strategy, data, privacy, technology, and associated compliance and risk issues.
Key Responsibilities- Provide senior management with effective advice on company strategies, products, processes, and risks, primarily related to data, technology, and privacy.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that technology transactions align with business objectives and mitigate legal risks.
- Prepare and negotiate legal contracts between the company and its customers for various lines of business, service providers, and employees.
- Provide guidance and drive implementation on incoming Bills or changes to existing rules/regulations that may affect the Company.
- Provide continuing counsel and guidance on business strategic issues and legal implications of existing and proposed product and service offerings.
- Provide mentorship and support to other members of FCT's legal team.
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or another provincial law society (preferably 5 to 8 years' experience).
- Experience in the following areas of law: data management and data governance, technology, privacy, fintech, and related financial services.
- Ability to draft, prepare, and negotiate large-scale MSAs and SOWs in the commercial space with a focus on financial services.
- The ability to provide entrepreneurial, pragmatic, business-oriented advice in a large, fast-paced environment with a high level of professionalism and outstanding business judgment.
- Ability to act as a lead lawyer in managing internal business relations across departments and client expectations, often with a focus on engaging with lender clients directly (counsel to counsel).
- Strong negotiation and drafting skills.
- Self-starter with a strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative.
- Willingness to quickly adapt to change.
- Able to juggle multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- High degree of accuracy and follow-through in completing work assignments.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills.
