Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Technologist to join our Biology Teaching Laboratory team at the University of Ottawa. As a key member of our laboratory support team, you will provide technical expertise and support to clients, including students, teaching assistants, and faculty members.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical advice and support to clients on the use of laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Design, assemble, install, test, maintain, and repair laboratory equipment and materials to meet specific client needs.
  • Train and support teaching assistants and students in the use of laboratory equipment and materials.
  • Ensure the safe operation of laboratories and laboratory equipment, and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of laboratory procedures and protocols.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in natural sciences or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience providing technical support and advice in a teaching/research laboratory.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in general biology, genetics, plant and animal biology.
  • Experience in working with live animals.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, instruments, materials, and hazards, and their safe usage.
  • Knowledge of health and safety rules, regulations, and university policies and procedures related to the operation of laboratories and laboratory equipment/material.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to users.
