Embedded Safety Specialist

BlackBerry QNX is a trusted supplier of safe and secure operating systems, hypervisors, frameworks, and development tools. We are seeking an Embedded Safety Specialist to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software safety standards, such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and IEC 62304. They will be responsible for conducting safety analyses, collaborating with customers, and creating documentation to support certification of software projects.

The Embedded Safety Specialist will work closely with our Functional Safety team to ensure that our products meet the highest safety standards. They will also partner with external safety assessors and participate in training and workshops to stay up-to-date with the latest industry developments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety analysis activities and collaborate with the onsite Principal FSM and global team as needed.
  • Create documents and/or evidence packages to support certification of roadmap or custom software projects.
  • Partner with external safety assessors.
  • Participate in training and workshops related to usage of QNX products in safety-critical systems or to functional safety in general.
  • Attend working groups to keep abreast of the latest industry developments and influence future industry standards.

Requirements:

  • Proven and in-depth knowledge of software safety standards, such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508, and IEC 62304.
  • Experience performing safety analyses and crafting associated documentation.
  • Experience with requirements management and associated tools.
  • Embedded software development experience using C.
  • Excellent relationship management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with alternative standards, such as EN 50128, UL 4600, or DO-178C.
  • Experience with QNX or other embedded RTOS development.
  • Knowledge of software development processes, standards, or guidelines, as well as scripting and document generation tools.
