Job Summary
Homestead Land Holdings Limited is seeking a skilled Paralegal to join our team in Burlington. As a key member of our management team, you will provide expert legal advice and support in matters related to residential tenancies, landlord-tenant disputes, and small claims court proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and file legal documents, including Form N4, N5, N6, N7, N8, etc.
- Attend and report at weekly meetings with management
- Offer resources and guidance on the Residential Tenancies Act, forms, and procedures
- Review and advise on arrears collections, payment plans, and outstanding balances
- Print and distribute weekly A/R reports to sites and management
- Maintain spreadsheets for files requiring legal action
- Follow up with phone calls and/or email for outstanding balances
- Monitor payment plans and follow up with site staff on payments made as a result of N4s
- File applications to the Landlord and Tenant Board and prepare materials for hearings
- Represent the Landlord at hearings and prepare for Tenant Applications, Motions, and Reviews
- Review chronic late-paying tenants and prepare Persistently Late Letters
- Liaise with housing authority and family and community resources for unique evictions
- Defend claims in small claims court and complete monthly Bad Debt records
- Maintain reports on collections and file Orders with the Sheriff's office
Requirements
- Maintain Law Society License in good standing and comply with Paralegal Rules of Conduct
- 2-3 years office experience
- Experience dealing with Landlord and Tenant matters
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and Yardi Voyager Accounting System
- Complete knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006, and Small Claims Practice and Procedures
- Ability to work in a team environment and possess excellent communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and willing to travel
