The estimated annual salary for this position is $50,640 based on 37.5 hours of work per week at $24.80 per hour.

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as a Healthcare Support Worker through our career access program. As a participant in this program, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and skills while pursuing your education.

You will be responsible for completing a full-time health care assistant certification program at a post-secondary institution with tuition paid for by the Ministry of Health. During the program, you will be paid a stipend of $24.80 per hour for 37.5 hours per week. Upon successful completion, you will commence employment as a Care Aide (LTCA) or Community Health Worker (CHW) in either the Long Term Care, Assisted Living or Home Support sector.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be eligible for this program, you must meet the following requirements:

• Be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Residency status in Canada.
• Complete a Criminal Record Check (CRC) for working with children and vulnerable adults.
• Possess a valid BC Driver's License and reliable vehicle for business purposes (only required for Home Support sector).
• Meet the College admission requirements for the Health Care Assistant Program in a timely manner. Those accepted by the college first will stand a better chance of securing a seat.
• Sign a 12-month return of service (ROS) agreement. The ROS period commences upon becoming registered and starting in a Care Aide or Community Health Worker position.
• Sign the Heath Care Support Worker Certificate Program Waiver that allows the sharing of your relevant information with the post-secondary institution.
• Pass an English proficiency test within the last 24 months if English is your second language or you've been educated outside of Canada.
• Not be currently performing a Health Care Aide role and have not previously completed the HCA program in BC.

Benefits

As a participant in this program, you will receive a stipend of $24.80 per hour for 37.5 hours per week during the program. You will also be reimbursed for pre-requisite courses and necessary books, and may be eligible for travel and overnight stays related to class, labs, or clinical placements. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be employed as a Care Aide or Community Health Worker and will have access to Northern Health Authority's employee benefits package.

Others

The program may be a combination of online and face-to-face learning, with theory portions taking place Monday to Friday and clinicals and practicum/preceptorship portions taking place on varied shift days and times, including weekends and nights. You will be expected to attend all classes and participate fully in the program.
