About the Role

The Environment Generalist Technical Supervisor at DNEG will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of tools and workflows for creating, altering, and positioning 2D and 3D environment geometry, shaders, and image assets. This role will work closely with Department Supervisors, Leads, and Artists to ensure the highest quality environments are delivered within the allocated time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review technical requirements of current and future shows to determine new tool or workflow developments needed to deliver high-quality environments.
  • Collaborate with Department Supervisors and Heads of Department to ensure tasks, methodology, and priorities align with the department's roadmap and future projects.
  • Work globally with Environment Generalist Heads of Department and Technical Supervisors to ensure consistent tools and workflows across the company.
  • Deliver tools and workflows on schedule by efficiently managing tasks, development teams, and cross-department communication.
  • Ensure output meets required quality standards.
  • Act as a bridge between artists and the Production Technology department, contributing to relevant working and steering committees to drive the technology roadmap forward.
  • Support the transition of maintenance and support of tools from the department to the Production Technology team, ensuring code is documented and easy to maintain.
  • Manage, schedule, and determine tasks for tech-leads in collaboration with the Head of Environments.

Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of Houdini.
  • VFX industry experience as an Environment artist or 3D-Generalist Lead/Senior working on high-end features or television.
  • Proven experience in pipeline and tool development.
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting scripts and templates.
  • Team leadership experience and training artists on best Houdini/USD/workflow practices.
  • Ability to communicate visual aspects to the team.
  • Strategic thinking and driving change.
  • Experience creating documentation for tools and plugins.
  • USD (Universal Scene Description) knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of Python and VEX.
