Job Opportunity:

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to join our Catastrophe Engineering and Analytics (CAT E&A) team. As a key member of this innovative team, you will play a crucial role in designing and developing end-to-end systems to deploy and run models. This role involves close collaboration with business, product, and data science teams to drive successful project outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with application engineers, data scientists, and stakeholders to build and maintain existing software supporting existing platforms.
  • Work with the team to develop our technical platform, focusing on user-friendliness and seamless integration of individual models.
  • Assist in the development of AI and machine learning projects.
  • Contribute to the development, maintenance, and evolution of our platform.
  • Drive technology and architecture decisions, mentoring teammates.
  • Design and architect scalable, reliable systems.
  • Write maintainable, well-tested code and design systems.
  • Build robust data pipelines, perform data analysis, and deploy models.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or ML engineering.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy, or SciPy) or R.
  • Proficiency in building and working with APIs.
  • Experience with GIS libraries, PostGIS, GDAL.
  • Experience with streaming and batch processing of data.
  • Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes.
