Job Summary:

We're seeking a skilled HVAC Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, clean, repair, replace, install, and maintain air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, including fridges, freezers, ice machines, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, associated pumps and valves, air dryers, air handling units, and cooling systems of medical equipment throughout the hospital.
  • Develop and implement effective preventive maintenance plans to maintain all equipment in good working condition.
  • Conduct regular checks on air handling units for noise, vibration, leaks, performance, and filter differential pressure.
  • Perform weekly routine checks on fan coil units and exhaust devices.
  • Monitor the building automation system (BAS) for HVAC-related alarms and check AHU performance in terms of temperature, damper settings, and valve positions.
  • Check system pumps for performance and efficiency, particularly during peak summer months.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning for scheduled and emergency work on HVAC equipment.
  • Order necessary parts and materials, including filters, belts, grease, cleaner/degreaser, light bulbs, and silicone for filter frames.
  • Respond to planned and reactive maintenance requests and rectify issues within your skillset and experience.
  • Assist other team members with maintenance and project requests as required.
  • Operate handheld devices and maintenance software for performing and recording work requests.
  • Adhere to departmental standards for quality work and key performance targets.
  • Comply with relevant safety procedures, company policies, and procedures, as well as hospital policies.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Diploma
  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience in HVAC/Refrigeration maintenance
  • Registered member in good standing with Skilled Trades BC
  • 313A Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic (commercial)
  • Valid ODP Certification
  • G1 Gas Technician license
  • Strong familiarity and comfort with central chiller plants and controls
  • Familiarity with commercial restaurant refrigeration systems is preferred
  • Able to perform various maintenance tasks within your skillset and experience
  • Ability to gather information, accurately assess issues, seek support, and take direction as necessary
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and quickly develop working relationships with a broad range of individuals, both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment, which may support various trades and roles where required, as well as comfort working alone
  • Familiarity working within a healthcare facility is preferred
