Materials Technologist/Inspector

About the Role
HF Sinclair is seeking a highly skilled Materials Technologist/Inspector to join our team at the Lubricants Facility. As a key member of our inspection team, you will be responsible for ensuring the integrity of our fixed equipment and piping systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement inspection plans for various types of static equipment
- Manage and coordinate non-destructive testing programs (NDT) and core inspection programs
- Communicate and address daily issues related to static equipment or piping with Maintenance and Operations
- Participate in failure analysis, root cause analysis, HAZOPs and materials selection processes
- Direct contract inspection/NDE resources
- Assist maintenance processes with shutdown planning and inspection support via SAP
- Provide technical direction in an Area Team environment for fixed equipment in assigned unit areas of responsibility
Requirements
- 2 – 5 years of inspection experience in a related role
- Experience in a Petrochemical/Refinery is preferred
- A technical graduate of a materials related discipline (Materials or Welding technology)
- Certified API 510/570 certification is preferred
Preferred Skills
- Knowledgeable on the application of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) and Asset Integrity Strategies
- Working knowledge of API 653 as well as 579, 580, 581. Certification of API 510 or API 570 is an asset
- Knowledge of root cause failure analysis, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) techniques, welding processes and basic metallurgy
- Excellent decision-making skills
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic SAP proficiency
- Ability to foster team participation
- Self-starter
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to build construction relationships with our customers, government agencies, contractors and manufacturers
Work Environment
- This role is an on-site role, located at the Lubricants Facility
- This is a safety sensitive position
