Job Summary

Tbaytel is seeking a skilled Telecommunications Specialist to join our team. As an Operations Technician, you will be responsible for installing and repairing Tbaytel products and services, outside plant infrastructure, and related telecommunications equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install structured cabling at customers' premises for Voice and Data services.
  • Perform service and repair work, from the CO, remotes, and outside plant infrastructure to customer premise equipment.
  • Install, splice, and test copper & fiber cables, service drops, terminals, and closures.
  • Install and maintain all support structures, including aerial messenger, poles, anchors, guys, cabinets, manholes, and ducts.
  • Perform cable fault analysis to sectionalize troubles; locate faults and repair overhead and underground cables (copper, fiber optic); diagnose and repair defective cable pairs using different testing apparatus.
  • Prepare fiber cables for the fiber management system, install and maintain FOTS enclosures and monitoring equipment for cables and associated equipment for use with carrier and fiber optic transmission.
  • Prepare copper cables for pressurization and monitoring; install program devices and maintain the pressurization systems and computerized detection systems.
  • Locate and mark underground telephone plant.
  • Provision, test, and maintain commercial Voice and Data services. Install and maintain related equipment, including data circuits, hosted systems, switches, and peripheral terminal equipment, IP and networking equipment, digital TV, and security systems.
  • Provide and update as-built information to maintain records, drawings, and maps. Liaise with Engineering on work order revisions, construction status, design improvements, quality control, and cost savings.
  • Operate various types of equipment used in construction.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of and comply with all legislation and Tbaytel policies relevant to the position and the duties performed.

Requirements

  • A completed post-secondary school certificate or diploma together with 3 years of industry experience and demonstrated knowledge.
  • Or
  • A completed degree or diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent from a University or College.
  • Proficiency in the use of various computer software programs, such as email, MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and Google Drive (Sheets, Docs, Slides), with the ability to learn new software as required.
  • Ability to communicate with the public and fellow employees in a courteous and tactful manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Electrical or Electronics Engineering Technology or equivalent from a University or College.
  • Previous telecommunications experience.

Conditions of Employment

  • Successfully undergo a satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
  • Capable of acquiring a valid 'DZ' driver's license and be able to upgrade to an 'A' License if required.
  • Must not be color blind. Able to differentiate colored wiring, and have an aptitude for high-tech tools.
  • Capable of performing demanding physical labor.
  • Able to work at heights, climb, and work freely on poles, ladders, and aerial mobile equipment.
  • Work shift work as required.
