Job Description

The incumbent will serve as a Senior Finance Executive and Head of Finance for Steinberg Advisory while simultaneously serving as the Corporate Controller for one or more of Steinberg Advisory's engagements. This opportunity offers significant earning potential including a flat monthly Controllership fee, additional fees for supporting additional engagements, as well as a road to partnership.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Head of Finance and Managing Director for Steinberg Advisory, including:
    • Work with the leadership team to evaluate potential files and growth opportunities.
    • Participate in restructuring activities for multiple files simultaneously.
    • Strategically partner with the leadership team to provide insight and counsel to drive corporate strategy and position the company for growth.
    • Participate in organizational strategic planning and risk management.
    • Implement and leverage tools that track and support key business metrics and KPI's.
    • Communicate effectively to stakeholders at the Board meeting and ad hoc meetings/calls as required.
  • As Controller for one or more of the firm's engagements, lead the finance and accounting function, including:
    • Lead a team of finance professionals.
    • Lead the budgeting, planning and forecasting processes and improve reporting capabilities.
    • Own Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and related functions.
    • Proactively suggest and implement cash management strategies.
    • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
    • Establish, document, and communicate system-wide accounting and financial reporting policies; establish and monitor internal control policies and procedures.
    • Lead tax planning and optimization.
    • Establish and execute programs for the provision of capital required by the company, including negotiating the procurement of debt and equity capital and maintaining the required financial arrangements.
    • Provide accurate and timely information to facilitate management decisions and maximize profitable growth.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as: business, accounting, or finance, is required.
  • A CPA designation (or international equivalent) is required.
  • Executive level knowledge of the following is required:
    • Organizational financial management and accounting.
    • Finance and accounting compliance for private and public companies.
    • Organizational restructuring, including CCAA and BIA.
    • Best practices for leadership, governance, and management.
  • 10+ years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Previous experience working for a strategy firm, leading specialist and/or niche advisory firm, or 'Big 4' consultancy, specializing in merger integration, organizational restructuring, carve-outs, business transformation, and change management, is required.
  • Extensive experience with corporate restructuring, including experience with CCAA and BIA is required.
  • Previous experience as a Controller is required.
  • Experience working in both private and public companies is required.
  • Previous working experience leading the finance and accounting function for a company in a relevant industry is required, such as: cannabis, manufacturing, transportation, etc. is required.
  • M&A experience is preferred.
  • Strong financial acumen is required, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, facility and corporate P&L management, transfer pricing, financial reporting and auditing.
  • Exceptionally strong strategic planning skills, negotiation skills, and leadership skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and externally with third party customers and partners.
