Job Summary

Spark Power Corp is seeking a highly skilled Relay Protection Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations and maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing relay programming, testing, and verification of protection and control devices in the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand, plan, and utilize utility and industry standard lockout procedures.
  • Read and interpret electrical AC and DC schematics, AC three-line, logic diagrams, and SLDs.
  • Inspect, test, operate, and troubleshoot AC and DC control and protection wiring schematic.
  • Perform field testing, verification, and programming of various IEDs from manufacturers such as SEL, GE Multilin, GEC Alstom, Siemens, Square D, and ABB.
  • Maintain or commission power distribution equipment, including power transformers, circuit breakers, HV switches, and instrument transformers.
  • Be familiar with industry-specific codes and standards (AESO, AUEC, IEEE, and NETA).
  • Ability and willingness to travel for out-of-town commissioning or maintenance projects.
  • Report, record, compute, and process electrical test information in accordance with accepted standard practices.
Requirements
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in P&C.
  • 2-year Electrical Engineering Technology diploma (from NAIT or SAIT) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • Registered or eligible to register with ASET or APEGA.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Makes decisions by weighing interrelated factors which are incomplete or contradictory.
  • Identifies and acts to resolve all issues and problems as they arise, regardless of responsibility area.
  • Identifies alternate solutions to standard problems using unclear criteria or procedures.
  • Works effectively and retains perspective in the face of difficult or demanding situations.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Able to provide technical leadership.
