Job Summary

The Special Education Technician is responsible for working with a multidisciplinary team to apply special education techniques and methods in accordance with individualized education plans for students with handicaps, social maladjustments, or learning difficulties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans in collaboration with the school administration and multidisciplinary team.
  • Assess student progress and participate in evaluating the effectiveness of the education plan.
  • Prepare and conduct educational support activities, cultural events, and sports programs to develop social, cognitive, and communication skills.
  • Work with teachers to determine and implement educational activities, including practicum supervision in the workplace.
  • Provide support to students with learning activities, reading, and writing, and offer explanations as needed.
  • Apply communication techniques adapted to student needs and inform students of various disorders or dependencies.
  • Supervise students who require instruction in another room and help them with their schoolwork.
  • Record observations and interventions, maintain student files, and prepare reports on student situations.

Requirements

  • Hold a Diploma of College Studies in special care counseling or a recognized equivalent.
  • Training in Autism is an asset.
  • Experience working with students with special needs and creating IEPs.
  • Experience working with teaching staff and pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of appropriate intervention techniques for challenging behaviors.
  • Computer skills and good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team setting and good communication skills.
  • Bilingualism is an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Hold a certificate dated no more than three years attesting to the successful completion of a standard first aid course and a refresher course.
