About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Facilities Operations Manager and Safety Expert to oversee our facilities operations and safety program, ensuring operational excellence and employee engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all Oxygen8 facilities to meet operational, regulatory, and contractual requirements, prioritizing safety and security.
- Collaborate with operations, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to ensure efficient facility operations.
- Ensure building systems (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, security) are operating effectively, managing service, maintenance, and vendor relationships.
- Develop and maintain accurate records, reports, and drawings.
- Lead efforts to investigate and address facilities-related quality issues, implementing corrective actions efficiently.
- Develop and manage the facilities budget, focusing on cost reduction, operational efficiency, and future expansion.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, Fire codes, and municipal regulations.
- Manage garbage and recycling programs, including vendor relationships.
Safety Focus
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve health and safety programs aligning with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify hazards, evaluate potential risks, and recommend preventative or corrective measures.
- Facilitate safety audits and inspections of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Build a culture of safety and continuous improvement to create a safe and positive work environment.
- Work with operations to identify and create new safety-related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Lead and manage the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC), holding monthly meetings, recording minutes, inspections, and ensuring actions are completed.
- Responsible for WorkSafeBC reporting (incidents/leaves, inspections, compliance reports); main liaison with WSBC and its officers.
- In conjunction with the People & Culture department, coordinate on employee leaves (safety-related) and establish safety training programs.
- Deliver safety training and facility orientations to new staff.
- Manage first-aid programs and training, ensuring regulatory compliance and coverage.
- Establish, monitor, and report on safety performance indicators, safety investigations, and injury reports.
Requirements
- Degree in a related Engineering discipline, Operations Management, or Safety (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years' experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment (minimum of 5 years at the managerial level).
- Extensive experience with facilities operations (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, maintenance management).
- Deep understanding of health & safety regulations.
- Experience in setting up and running safety committees and training programs.
- Experience with 5S, Kaizen, and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge in supply chain and planning of both production and materials.
- Outstanding communication ability, including negotiation skills and assertiveness.
- Exceptional time management and problem-solving skills, ability to multi-task and execute.
- Solid computer skills (Excel, ERP experience an advantage).
