Medical Director

The Medical Lead position at Island Health is a key leadership role that plays a vital part in ensuring the delivery of high-quality medical services across the organization. As a subject matter expert, the Medical Lead provides leadership to division members and collaborates with the Department Head to ensure that laboratory medicine medical services meet the highest standards.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Medical Workforce Planning: The Medical Lead collaborates with the Department Head and Medical Affairs to monitor and anticipate division workforce needs, and to address identified needs to ensure that the division has the necessary resources to deliver high-quality services.
2. Practice Standards: The Medical Lead leads the development and routine monitoring of medical practice standards to ensure that they are aligned with the organization's policies and procedures.
3. Research and Education: The Medical Lead supports division members to conduct research and to provide medical education to enhance their skills and knowledge.
4. Individual Practitioner Quality (IPQ): The Medical Lead facilitates continuous improvement of IPQ by leading effective credentialing and privileging activities, continuing professional development, and practitioner performance enhancement activities.

Additional Contract Content:

• The Medical Lead will work collaboratively in a co-leadership model with an assigned administrative lead.
• The Medical Lead will chair or co-chair relevant team committees.
• The Medical Lead will use an Island Health email address for work-related correspondence.
• The Medical Lead will dedicate time to this position during Island Health regular working hours, or as agreed upon with the position's supervisor.
