We are seeking an experienced Backend Services Architect to join our team. As a key member of our technical operations group, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and efficient backend services using distributed systems and microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy complex services and APIs to meet the needs of our development team and other parts of the VFX pipeline
  • Gather requirements across large-scale collaboration efforts that span multiple departments and disciplines
  • Write technical briefs and user documentation to ensure seamless communication and knowledge sharing
  • Partner with software development leadership and pipeline teams to identify and schedule tasks, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results
  • Implement and maintain observability solutions, including metrics, traces, and logging systems to optimize service performance and reliability
  • Design and enforce Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for critical services to ensure exceptional customer experience
  • Develop and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines in air-gapped environments to ensure smooth and secure deployment processes
  • Create and document release processes and procedures to facilitate knowledge sharing and scalability
  • Mentor team members on service deployment and operational best practices to foster growth and excellence

Requirements

  • Expertise in Python development and familiarity with automated build and deployment systems in Gitlab or similar
  • Experience designing and developing services and APIs in a scalable and maintainable way, with hands-on experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems
  • Knowledge of SQL/noSQL databases and ability to author schemas, as well as demonstrated ability to work on unfamiliar technologies
  • Experience implementing observability solutions using tools like OpenTelemetry and Prometheus, understanding of SRE principles and practices, and familiarity with VFX Pipelines and production needs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience working in restricted/air-gapped environments and proficiency in workflow orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache Airflow, Dagster)
