Job Title: Language Acquisition Support Worker

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to join our team as a Language Acquisition Support Worker. This role is a critical part of our educational support services, providing essential support to students who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Model American Sign Language (ASL) for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, facilitating their communication and language development.
  • Teach ASL to students and staff, promoting language acquisition and cultural awareness.
  • Provide educational support services and materials for school teams, ensuring inclusive and accessible learning environments.
  • Work with Deaf or hard of hearing K-12 students in one-on-one, small group, and whole class settings, adapting to their individual needs and abilities.
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary training in education, special education, or a related field, with a focus on Deaf education or ASL instruction.
  • Native fluency in ASL, with a minimum of Level 4 proficiency on the ASL Proficiency Interview.
  • Experience working with early language learners and a strong understanding of child and language development.
  • Competency in English, with excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary studies in Deaf education, special education, or child development.
  • ASL instructor certification and/or Deaf interpreter training.
