The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Advancement Officer to lead our institution's advancement effort in the strategic development and execution of our ambitious advancement mandate. This position will report to the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer and will be responsible for developing, leading, and implementing bespoke, ambitious, sustainable, long-term private funding strategies with the goal of diversifying our donor base and building ongoing donor engagement and commitment to our Institute.

About the Role

The successful candidate will have a direct impact on our institution and ultimately on Canada's ability to advance diversity in the sciences and bring together the world's most brilliant minds to achieve scientific breakthroughs that will change the world. As a trusted advisor and partner to our Board, Director, and senior leadership team, the Chief Advancement Officer will deepen internal coordination and capacity to deliver at the highest levels.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement strategic plans to diversify our donor base and build ongoing donor engagement and commitment to our Institute.
  2. Lead and manage a team of advancement professionals to achieve our fundraising goals.
  3. Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, prospective funders, and other stakeholders.
  4. Provide strategic advice and guidance to our senior leadership team on advancement-related matters.
  5. Collaborate with our Board and Director to advance our institution's strategic priorities.

Requirements

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong track record of success in advancement and fundraising. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the non-profit sector and a proven ability to develop and implement effective fundraising strategies. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with donors, stakeholders, and colleagues.
