Job Summary
As a Pharmacy Assistant at Fraser Health, you will play a vital role in supporting our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in measuring, packaging, compounding, and distributing medications, maintaining accurate records and stock levels.
- Count and measure medications, fill containers or unit dose packages, and compound medications such as lotions, ointments, and creams for inspection.
- Distribute verified medications to patient care units, maintain inventory and wardstock levels, and perform various clerical duties as assigned.
- Deliver ward supplies and other stock requirements, maintain inventory and wardstock levels, and fill wardstock and narcotic requisitions.
- Identify beyond-use-dated drugs to be returned or destroyed by checking stock for expiry dates.
- Maintain department work areas, ensuring tidiness and order, and stock pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and glassware according to established procedures and standards.
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, answering the phone, filing, and maintaining records of drug and medication use and costs.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 graduation from a recognized Pharmacy Assistant course, plus one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to type.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
