About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to join our team at Fort McKay First Nation. As a key member of our Environmental and Regulatory team, you will play a critical role in supporting the conservation and protection of our reserve lands.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for land use projects, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Develop and implement environmental management plans, including site assessments, cleanups, and remediation projects.
  • Lead the implementation of on-reserve environmental conservation and protection programs, working closely with community members and stakeholders.
  • Conduct inspections and site visits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policies.
  • Prepare and submit environmental reports, summaries, and other documentation as required.
  • Liaise with government agencies, stakeholders, and other departments on various environmental initiatives.
  • Use technology, such as drone footage and GPS, to record land and environmental data for our Geographic Information System (GIS) and environmental monitoring programs.
  • Ensure environmental requirements are met for the Addition to Reserve (ATR) process, including managing contractors and environmental data.
  • Maintain land and environmental databases for new and existing properties and tenants.
  • Develop and update environmental laws, policies, and procedures as needed.
Requirements
  • University degree in Environmental Science, Reclamation, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in land/environmental management, with a proven track record of skills and knowledge.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite and ability to learn new software applications.
  • Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Cree and/or Dene is an asset.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check and valid Class 5 Driver's License required.
