Job Summary

The Admitting Clerk will be responsible for interviewing and registering patients using EPIC software, following the HHS Registration Manual & Industry Standards. This role will initiate and maintain an accurate database used by multiple departments to provide quality care. The incumbent will also be responsible for Bed Booking, maintaining the Central Bed Registry, and implementing Bed Management Guidelines. Additionally, they will facilitate patient placement for ER, regional partners, and nursing units, and complete accurate statistical collection for external partners. The Admitting Clerk will demonstrate excellent customer service attributes, such as active listening, empathy, and courtesy, and work effectively as a team player. The schedule will include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Medical terminology certificate required
  • Medical Administration diploma from a recognized college preferred
  • Keyboard proficiency (40-45 wpm) and accurate computer data entry skills
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize workload and function independently in a busy environment
  • Demonstrate problem-solving, critical thinking, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent customer service and service recovery skills
  • Able to diplomatically respond to inquiries from staff, patients, family members, and physicians
  • Ability to respond to change management
