Richmond School District #38 is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Settlement Worker in Schools to provide essential support to newly immigrated students and their families as they integrate into life in Canada.
Job Summary:
The successful candidate will work primarily throughout the secondary school system to assist immigrant youth who face settlement difficulties, with a focus on late-arriving youth at risk of not graduating. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community agencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide supplementary settlement support to newly immigrated students and their families
- Assist in the development and implementation of program frameworks and evaluate and monitor programming to meet desired outcomes
- Conduct needs assessments and referrals, provide information and orientation, and connect students with community resources
- Develop and write Settlement Action Plans, including specific goals and timelines, and conduct follow-up as needed
- Support youth by bridging home and school communication and advocate for students as needed
- Collaborate with district staff and community resources to organize and conduct programs aimed at supporting the integration and settlement needs of youth
Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree or equivalent in human services, social sciences, counseling, or social work
- Three years' related experience working in a multicultural setting
- Demonstrated oral and written fluency in assigned language and English
- Understanding of Canadian and cross-cultural issues and ability to assist with the bridging of cultures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to speak to groups and work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, and community agencies
