About this Role

This key position within the Operations Team serves as a Supplier Quality Engineer, responsible for ensuring that all products delivered from suppliers, packaging, and other operational processes comply with manufacturing specifications and company standards.

This role is crucial in achieving and maintaining high levels of supplier quality.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  1. Drive supplier quality performance, including new product development and product quality improvement.
  2. Ensure all supplier non-conformances are identified and controlled.
  3. Support investigations to ensure timely closure and effectiveness.
  4. Oversee the supplier quality function and establish quality control objectives.
  5. Promote and enhance a safety-first culture.
  6. Perform quality system audits.
  7. Maintain supplier quality records.
  8. Maintain relationships with suppliers.
  9. Promote initiatives to improve quality.
  10. Provide support to Supply Chain in evaluating new or existing suppliers, or items from a quality standpoint.

This may involve assisting with issue resolution, surveys, risk assessments, and evaluations of capacities and capabilities.

Review supplier documentation, such as certifications, end item data packages, etc., to ensure compliance with Powersmiths' requirements.

Work with design engineers to capture product requirements and ensure appropriate preventive and corrective measures are put in place.

Assist in reducing the occurrence of manufacturing errors.

Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving activities, reviewing documents, drawings, and instructions to ensure conformance to requirements.

Participate in cross-functional team meetings.

This position requires a hands-on approach combined with a strategic mindset.

Adhere to all company policies, including health and safety protocols.

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience, ideally in a manufacturing environment with integrated power and power conversion products in various stages of prototyping, commercialization, and production.
  • Experience working in engineer-to-order, configure-to-order, or custom product manufacturing.
  • Experience in selecting suppliers and ensuring they meet all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and other problem-solving techniques.
  • Experience with ISO9001/ISO14001 Environmental and Quality Management Systems.
  • An appreciation and passion for mitigating the environmental impacts of manufacturing (products, processes, packaging, recycling, energy conservation, etc.).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with quality inspection activities and the use of appropriate tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to present ideas clearly to all levels.
  • Resourceful, innovative, and energetic.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Highly developed attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions:

This role is in an office environment, with regular visits to the manufacturing environment.

Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.

Ability to travel to international destinations; must possess and maintain a valid passport for international travel.
