Job Summary

As a Banquet Houseperson at The University of British Columbia, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth execution of conferences and events. Your primary responsibilities will include setting up and resetting room venues, providing general assistance to conference organizers and attendees, and delivering food and beverages to various locations on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and reset room venues, including tables, chairs, and audio-visual equipment
  • Provide general assistance to conference organizers and attendees, including answering questions and resolving issues
  • Deliver food and beverages to various locations on campus, using company vehicles
  • Maintain records of food and equipment delivered and picked up
  • Perform routine maintenance on company vehicles
  • Assist with event setup and teardown, including loading and unloading equipment and supplies
  • Monitor event venues and facilities to ensure everything is running smoothly
  • Connect and operate audio-visual and public address systems
  • Perform cleanup work in meeting rooms and common areas as needed
  • Provide information to guests and the public in response to inquiries
  • Assist emergency response personnel during events
  • May write shift activity reports and record activity in area log books
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • High school graduation and a valid BC driver's license
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with location and layout of campus facilities
  • Good knowledge of audio-visual equipment and other conference equipment requirements
  • Physical ability to lift 30 kg
Working Conditions

This role requires working in a fast-paced environment, with frequent lifting, bending, and standing. You will be required to work in a variety of settings, including meeting rooms, common areas, and outdoors.

Supervision

You will report to the Banquet Captain and take direction from the Catering Manager. Work is performed under general supervision, with review on completion for adherence to standards.
