Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to join our Acute Assessment Program at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care. As a key member of our inter-professional team, you will provide specialized short-term crisis intervention, risk assessment, and active treatment for individuals requiring more mental health support than can be provided in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to comprehensive patient assessments, including gathering collateral data, taking histories, and completing admission and discharge notes.
  • Provide follow-up monitoring and education to patients, families, and substitute decision makers.
  • Communicate effectively within the Waypoint care team and with external members of the patient care team.
  • Document all aspects of care, including compliance with quality standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including the implementation of HQO's Quality Standards for Schizophrenia care and the Ottawa Smoking Cessation Program.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited physician assistant training program.
  • Certified, or eligible to be certified, through the PACCC.
  • Previous experience in acute care medicine and mental health an asset.
  • Experience with patient safety, including emergency patient care procedures.
  • Proficiency in English language; working knowledge of French language an asset.
