Job Description:

The On-Call Indigenous Support Teacher will play a vital role in supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of Indigenous students. This position requires a highly skilled and dedicated educator who can adapt to various learning contexts and build positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support to Indigenous students to enhance their academic success and cultural identity
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive lesson plans that incorporate Indigenous perspectives and knowledge
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to ensure seamless delivery of services and promote a cohesive learning environment
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular updates to parents/guardians
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in Indigenous education and share expertise with colleagues
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching certification
  • Two years of successful classroom experience, preferably in an urban setting
  • Significant leadership experience, particularly in relation to developing and enhancing Indigenous community and cultural awareness
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing connections and partnerships with Indigenous communities and raising cultural awareness in schools
  • Effective communication skills, as demonstrated through positive relationships with students, staff, parents/guardians, and the community
  • Strong administrative skills to manage ongoing documentation processing requirements associated with the Indigenous Support Program
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of local Saanich Indigenous Communities and their histories and cultures
  • Experience working with Indigenous students and families, particularly in literacy, numeracy, and life skills development
  • Demonstrated ability to relate positively with the Indigenous community on a daily basis
