We are currently seeking a highly skilled Building Equipment Specialist to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.

Job Summary

The Building Equipment Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of building equipment and providing excellent customer service to tenants and operations teams.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Monitoring and maintaining day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repairs of complex HVAC equipment, life safety systems, and building automation systems
  • Regular water testing and treatment of open and closed loops and adding chemicals based on test results
  • Responding to tenant requests in a timely manner and communicating with tenants regarding mechanical/HVAC issues
  • Maintaining facility equipment through the Angus system, emphasizing energy efficiency, equipment life cycle, and regulatory guidelines
  • Liaising with service providers and contractors to ensure safe work practices and industry standards
  • Assisting in developing energy priorities for building systems to align with sustainability objectives, including daily energy management of HVAC and lighting systems
Requirements

To be successful as a Building Equipment Specialist, you must have:

  • An Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with a minimum of three years related experience and/or trade school training
  • A current Alberta 4th Class Power Engineers License; a 5th Class would be acceptable if currently enrolled in 4th Class course to be completed within 12 months
  • A valid "Universal" level certification for CFC and HFC based refrigerants (EPA Section 608); to service, repair, or dispose of equipment that could release ozone depleting refrigerants to the atmosphere or any similar combination of education and experience
  • Further appropriate license/permit for trade, such as Journeyman or Master Electrician License, City Licenses, Operators License, Steam Engineers License, etc.
  • Basic computer skills in Outlook, Excel & Word, and knowledge of CMMS software
  • Experience in operation, maintenance, and basic repair of HVAC, heaters, pumps, refrigerant systems, compressors, water systems, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in energy management systems, techniques, and operations
  • Strong communication skills, organization skills, technical proficiency, problem-solving and decision-making skills, and interpersonal skills
Working Environment & Physical Demands

This role operates in a professional office environment and may require shift work and/or on-call duties.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to stoop, stand, climb, frequently lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment, and safely install rigging/lifting devices.
