The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Asset Management and Energy Efficiency to lead our Asset Management Department. This strategic leader will provide data-driven leadership and management of the department, offering related supports and services to member housing providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Management:
    • Develop and implement an Operational Plan for Asset Management Department activities, aligning with BCNPHA's Strategic Plan and other organizational activities.
    • Manage and coach a team of direct reports, ensuring their growth and development.
    • Analyze and manage asset data to inform strategic priorities and support department activities.
    • Establish department goals, expectations, procedures, and systems to optimize project execution and consistency with team capacity and mission.
  • Energy Management:
    • Investigate, develop, and implement energy efficiency programs, securing project funding from utility and government partners.
    • Develop and train Senior Managers to provide coaching and training to staff and non-profit housing providers on energy efficiency projects.
    • Provide technical support to non-profit housing providers to identify, plan, and implement energy efficiency projects.
    • Seek funding to grow the team and secure additional funds for energy and capital projects.
    • Lead the coordination and execution of energy efficiency projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, standards, and timelines.
  • Capital Planning:
    • Analyze and report on trends in asset condition and liabilities in the non-profit housing portfolio, informing BCNPHA's partnership programs, funding priorities, and activities.
    • Evaluate the need and demand for new or expanded capital planning and portfolio planning supports for non-profit housing providers.
  • Program and Partnership Development:
    • Act as a point of contact with internal and external partners on strategic issues affecting energy and asset management activities.
    • Manage relationships with external partners, including funders.
    • Oversight and management of new and existing partnership programs.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Prepare and deliver presentations, educational materials, and program updates to non-profit societies and partners.
    • Contribute to BCNPHA's education curriculum related to facilities, capital planning, operations, and maintenance, and energy management.
    • Contribute to organization communications and capacity building activities.
Essential Qualities and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, systems-thinking, and data-driven leader, aligned with BCNPHA's mission. They will possess the following qualifications:

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Masters' designation in business or a relevant field
  • Or equivalent professional experience

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of management experience in a relevant and complex organization
  • Demonstrated relationship-building with direct team, cross departments, board of directors, and stakeholders
  • Proven project management experience
  • Combination of knowledge and experience with energy efficiency and high-performance building design, including:
    • Solid working knowledge of HVAC and lighting systems, energy conservation measures, building control systems, and building envelope design
    • Experience with new construction design and/or existing building auditing
    • Sound knowledge of energy audits/studies and utility incentive programs
    • Familiarity with capital planning, life-cycle cost analysis, LEED Green Building Rating System, and greenhouse gas emissions
