Electrical Engineer - Senior

GHD is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Electrical Engineer - Senior to join our team in Southern Ontario. As a key member of our Engineering Design Organization (EDO), you will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of electrical systems for various projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead proposal requests, develop design and construction fees, and report writing
  • Complete condition assessments for various facilities, including report writing and participation in client meetings
  • Prepare detailed design drawing packages for projects of varying scale, including utility interconnection, substation design, electrical system protection and coordination, low (LV) and medium (MV) voltage power distribution, and motor control
  • Complete and review electrical design calculations
  • Prepare contract documentation, including equipment specifications, cable/conduit schedules, installation specifications, equipment procurement documents, sub-contractor requisitions, scope-of-work, bill-of-materials, and process narratives
  • Technical review and quality control of design drawings and documents, professional sealing of technical documents
  • Coordinate with clients, vendors, other disciplines, authorities, and hydro throughout design and construction phases of projects
  • Support during tendering and construction, including responding to RFIs, assisting GHD and client site personnel, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating electrical reports, completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, and preparation and evaluation of change orders
  • Prepare and lead electrical specific meetings with clients, presenting design options, system functionality, and mentoring junior staff
  • Coordinate electrical system designs with other engineering disciplines, vendors, and outside design team members, providing direction to and coordination with internal designers/drafters
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards, and regulations, coordination and liaison with clients and approving authorities
  • Ensure engineering designs adhere to business line standards, such as specifications, design checklists, detail drawings, and assist and/or lead efforts to develop technical standards for the business line
  • Lead technical design teams on large, complex projects as discipline lead, providing guidance and support to other project team members, and may be called upon to act as project manager responsible for work breakdown, schedule, budgets, supervising staff, and providing leadership and guidance on project basis
  • Maintain and manage client relationships to ensure client satisfaction and repeat work
Requirements:
  • 10-15 years or more experience involved in the design and implementation of MV and LV electrical systems, including substations, motors, and drives, power distribution, power generation, and working knowledge of field instrumentation and automated equipment integration
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Registered member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation will be considered an asset
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license will be considered an asset
  • Project Engineers license in other Canadian provinces will be considered an asset
  • Good working knowledge of NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC), Canadian electrical codes and standards, relevant industry standards, and regulations, understanding of MV and LV power distribution design concepts, equipment, and personnel safety strategies, and electrical system protection theories and applications
  • Experience in transit projects will be an asset
  • Experience in facilities electrical systems, including lighting, fire alarms, security, will be an asset
  • Experience with design-build projects will be considered an asset
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and continual diligence to follow-up while exercising sound judgment
  • Self-motivated, with strong desire to learn
  • Exceptional time management skills with the capability to multi-task and manage numerous projects
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision and guidance from senior team members
  • Proven strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills to optimally coordinate activities and accomplish goals
  • G class driver's license with the ability to travel to job sites on occasion as required
