About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Video Producer to join our team at CBC/Radio-Canada. As a key member of our original video development team, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily creation of our supper-hour news show, Northbeat, and implementing a digital-first video strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage a team of producers and content creators to develop and produce high-quality video content for digital and broadcast platforms.
  • Develop and implement a digital-first video strategy to maximize engagement and reach across multiple platforms.
  • Assign and develop content from reporters working in the NWT and Yukon, ensuring that story expectations and direction are clearly communicated.
  • Oversee the daily creation of the Northbeat supper-hour news show, ensuring that journalism is of the highest quality and meets the standards of CBC/Radio-Canada.
  • Develop and implement a content and workflow strategy for the launch of a FAST TV streaming channel for the North.
  • Collaborate with the digital Senior Producer to maximize digital first strategy and ensure seamless integration of video content across platforms.
  • Work with the assigning producers to allocate resources for video and other platforms, ensuring that content is developed and produced efficiently and effectively.
  • Manage the story development process and scheduling, working with the executive producer to refine focus, angles, and structure.
  • Develop the pitching and story creation skills of VJs reporters and videographers, ensuring that they are equipped to produce high-quality content.
  • Write, vet, edit, and review scripts, stories, and q lines for the show, as necessary.
  • Support the host in delivering high-quality content and performance.
  • Communicate with producers across platforms to ensure seamless integration of content and workflow.
  • Anticipate and plan for the needs and direction of the program and streaming channel, ensuring that content is developed and produced to meet the standards of CBC/Radio-Canada.
  • Determine the look, feel, style, pace, lineup, and format of the program against established criteria and values.
  • Guide and support staff through change, ensuring that they are equipped to adapt to new workflows and processes.
  • Support team development and ongoing staff feedback, ensuring that staff are equipped to produce high-quality content.
  • Have daily responsibility for the journalism on the program and on the streaming channel, ensuring that it meets the standards of CBC/Radio-Canada.
Requirements
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from university or college, plus 5 years of practical and relevant experience in journalism, including interviewing and writing for broadcast.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team or unit, with a proven track record of success.
  • Demonstrated experience in video story development across a range of formats, with a focus on digital-first content.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing feedback and coaching to staff, ensuring that they are equipped to produce high-quality content.
  • Demonstrated experience with journalism ethics, vetting, and fact-checking, ensuring that content meets the standards of CBC/Radio-Canada.
  • A keen interest and ongoing expertise in news and current events, with a focus on digital-first content.
  • An ability to work effectively to multiple deadlines, with a focus on delivering high-quality content.
  • Excellent organizational skills, interpersonal, and communication skills, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
  • An ability to work overtime as required, with a focus on delivering high-quality content.
