Cardiovascular Specialist

Fraser Health Authority is seeking a skilled Clinical Associate to join our team. As a key member of the 2 South Cardiac Surgery Step-Down Unit, you will lead an inter-disciplinary team providing post-operative management for cardiac surgery patients.

About the Role:

• Schedule daily attendance and assessment of post-operative patients
• Liaise with PCC and nursing staff to review overnight events and current urgent nursing issues
• Provide clinical assessment, diagnostics, and treatment as required
• Lead ward rounds, including direct communication with nurses and reviewing nursing concerns
• Liaise with intensivists in CSICU regarding arriving post-op patients
• Provide education and training to nursing, medical, and pharmacy students
• Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and social workers for complex discharges
• Perform bedside procedures, including wound assessments, chest tube insertions, and minor suturing
• Develop discharge plans, including summaries entered into CVI-Source and/or Meditech Advance
• Coordinate follow-up outpatient diagnostic tests and appointments
• Review medication with attending pharmacists and educate patients and families
• Understand temporary external pacemaker use and application, including troubleshooting
• Interpret cardiac monitoring, ECGs, and consult with electrophysiology services as needed
• -coordinate care when multiple subspecialties are involved

Requirements:

• Medical degree and enrolled with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) with 24 months of postgraduate training
• Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC)
