Job Summary

The City of Kelowna is seeking a highly skilled Financial Services Professional to join our Financial Planning team. As an Accounting Specialist, you will be responsible for managing the investment and debt portfolios, overseeing the utilization of reserves, developing financial models, and formulating funding strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze and improve accounting and operating procedures.
  • Review and advise on the day-to-day processing of financial records.
  • Train and advise staff and customers on accounting functions, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide special projects accounting services, including coordination with other departments and agencies.
  • Prepare complex reconciliations on sub-ledgers and account balances.
  • Direct the work of other financial services staff.
  • Review and analyze various financial reports and initiate corrective action.

Requirements

  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, with a minimum of two (2) years at the Accounting Technician level or higher.
  • Minimum of ten (10) CPA PREP Modules (6 in Accounting or Finance) plus Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial modeling.
  • Experience with financial software systems, internal controls, and municipal accounting and auditing.
