Position Summary

The University of Regina invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biology, focusing on Sexually-Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections.

About the Role

This position is part of the Canada Research Chair (CRC) Program, which aims to foster research excellence in Canada. The successful candidate will be the University's nominee for a Tier 2 CRC in Sexually-Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish a novel research program in Sexually-Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections, with a focus on molecular aspects, pathogen biology, microbiota alterations, diagnostics, community transmission, and epidemiology.
  • Engage in academic and scholarly activity, including teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in biology.
  • Attract and train high-quality personnel in biology, microbiology, genetics, diagnostics, epidemiology, biostatistics, or bioinformatics.
  • Develop a strong research program, with a focus on Sexually-Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections, and contribute to the University's research excellence.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in Biology or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration, and networking skills.
  • Potential to attract and train high-quality personnel in biology, microbiology, genetics, diagnostics, epidemiology, biostatistics, or bioinformatics.
  • Exceptional track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Commitment to preparing a CRC application that articulates an original, innovative, and high-quality research program.
About the Department

The Department of Biology at the University of Regina is a vibrant and collaborative research environment, with strong ties to the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The department houses the Institute for Microbial Systems and Society (IMSS) and the Institute of Environmental Change & Society (IECS), providing world-class infrastructure and research expertise in environmental and cellular sciences.
