About the Role

As a Senior Underwriter at Markel Corp, you will play a critical role in driving business growth and profitability. Reporting to the Manager, Care Sector, you will be responsible for underwriting the relevant line of business within agreed business plan parameters, and in line with underwriting authority, in order to achieve agreed combined ratio targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the company's underwriting authority and business plan parameters.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and make informed underwriting decisions to achieve agreed combined ratio targets.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to drive business growth and profitability.
  • Support the development and maintenance of a robust underwriting framework to ensure consistency and accuracy in underwriting decisions.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in underwriting, with a strong understanding of insurance products and risk management principles.
