Job Title: Instructor Guard/Supervising Instructor Guard

Job Summary:

We are seeking highly skilled and experienced individuals to join our team as Instructor Guards/Supervising Instructor Guards at Norfolk County. As a key member of our aquatics team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our patrons while providing high-quality swimming programs and services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instruction and supervision to swimming classes, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • Conduct lifeguard duties during recreational swims, rental groups, and other aquatics programs, adhering to Regulation 565 and Norfolk County policies.
  • Prepare lesson plans, organize equipment, and teach swim classes in accordance with Lifesaving Society standards and Norfolk County policies.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including attendance records, worksheets, and report cards.
  • Assist with special pool programs and events, as well as aquatic division meetings and in-house training sessions.
  • Provide supervision and direction to staff when in the role of Supervising Instructor Guard.
  • Accept and process payments for swim programs, pass cards, and general admissions.
  • Handle customer service inquiries professionally and maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform regulated water tests, equipment checks, cleaning, and sanitization duties, reporting any issues to the Supervisor, Aquatics.

Requirements:

  • Current Lifesaving Society Instructor status.
  • Current National Lifeguard Award.
  • Current Standard First Aid certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certification.
  • Basic aquafit teaching experience of shallow and deep water classes.
  • Aquafitness Certification through CALA or Water ART or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Over one year, up to and including two years' experience, or equivalent previous experience.
  • The successful candidate must be able to complete and pass Norfolk County's Aquatics Skills Screening Test as part of the hiring process.
