Job Title: Settlement Counsellor (Youth Program)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Settlement Counsellor to join our team at the Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO). The successful candidate will provide support to newcomer youth and their families, helping them to settle and integrate into Canadian society.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide group and individual support to newcomer youth through recreational and educational programming.
  • Work closely with OCISO staff to design, deliver, and facilitate educational and fun recreational activities and workshops on topics relevant to newcomer youth.
  • Assist with supervising and facilitating summer programming, including Newcomer Youth Centre and Newcomer Orientation Week (NOW) summer programs.
  • Provide safe spaces and a welcoming environment for newcomer youth.
  • Ensure high standards of cultural and linguistic service delivery approach within an anti-racist/anti-oppression policy.
Requirements:
  • Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
  • Enrolled as a post-secondary student in the previous academic year and intending to return to school full-time in the next academic year.
  • Enrolled in post-secondary social sciences, humanities-related field.
  • Experience in working with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Sound knowledge of different issues facing newcomers to Canada, specifically refugee and immigrant youth.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.
  • Ability to speak other languages that are spoken by the diverse communities in Ottawa is an asset.
